Walk or bike the greenways to get fit this fall

(Steve Green/Vanderbilt)

Fall is a great time to build healthy habits for the holiday season and winter months. Did you know there are more than 190 miles of trails in Davidson County? If you live outside of Davidson County, you can explore trails and parks in your area.

Walking or biking on trails can be a great way to enjoy the outdoors, be physically active and spend time with friends, family and four-legged friends. (Dogs are allowed on the greenways on leashes not exceeding six feet.)

Visit the Greenways for Nashville website and remember these safety tips when using the greenways and others trails:

  • Keep to the right, pass on the left
  • Bicyclists and skaters yield to pedestrians
  • Give audible signal when passing
  • Stay on designated trails

Log your activity in the Start! Activity Tracker. Each quarter, the challenge is to reach 200,000 steps. Remember steps can be calculated from many types of physical activity including biking. Submit activity by midnight on Oct. 5, 2013, to win a Performance Outdoor Sports Hat.

Visit on your mobile device and track on Start!’s new mobile site.
