Universitywide limited submission opportunity for Beckman Young Investigators Program

Award sponsored by Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation

Vanderbilt University may nominate one candidate for the 2014 Beckman Young Investigators Program. This award provides $750,000 over a period of four years to provide research support to the most promising young faculty members in the early stages of academic careers in the chemical and life sciences, particularly to foster the invention of methods, instruments and materials that will open up new avenues of research. The program is intended to fund researchers who have completed no more than three years in their tenure-track appointment, with little or no other sources of research support.

Projects should show promise for contributing to significant advances and represent innovative departures in research rather than extensions or expansions of existing programs. Proposed research that cuts across traditional boundaries of scientific disciplines is encouraged. Proposals that open new avenues or research in chemistry and the life sciences by fostering the invention of methods, instruments and materials will be given additional consideration.

Anyone interested in being considered as Vanderbilt’s nominee must submit the following (in PDF format) to LSO@vanderbilt.edu by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2013:

  • Brief (two-page maximum) research plan including summary budget;
  • Brief statement of support from department chair/center director;
  • A brief CV or NIH biosketch

Submissions should reference the program name in the subject line of the email.

Once received, all proposals will be forwarded to an internal review committee that will choose the final nominee. The chosen nominee will submit a full proposal to the foundation by the Sept. 30, 2013, deadline.

If you have any questions about the foundation or its interest and priorities, please contact Foundation Relations Executive Director Vivian Carmichael at vivian.carmichael@vanderbilt.edu or (615) 875-4915.
