Vanderbilt University’s first Women in Science Symposium, held April 29, featured prominent female scientists discussing the role of women in scientific leadership positions. In addition, couples in science shared their advice and experience for maintaining a work-life balance.
Keynote presentations were given by Madeleine Joullié, Ph.D., professor of Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania, and Virginia Shepherd, Ph.D., professor of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and director of the Vanderbilt Center for Science Outreach.
The event was sponsored by the Chemical Biology Association of Students, the Chemical and Physical Biology Program Graduate Student Association, the Chemistry Graduate Student Association, the Vanderbilt Institute of Chemical Biology, and by the Margaret Cuninggim Women’s Center.
