The National Association of Young People Who Stutter is hosting a one-day course for children who stutter and their families. Co-sponsored by the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences and The Stuttering Foundation, the workshop will be a fun-filled, informative conference for children, teens and adults who stutter and the families and professionals who support them.
The workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center, located at 1215 21st Ave. S. Cost for the workshop is $55 per family or $45 per individual.
Attendees will find support and information and meet other people dedicated to living successfully with stuttering. The workshop format includes presentations, small discussion groups, panel presentations and group activities. Children, teens, siblings, parents and speech-language pathologists can attend sessions geared specifically toward their individual needs. The children’s programming is activity-based and focuses on feelings about and strategies for dealing with stuttering.
The programming is facilitated by speech-language pathologists and members of the adult stuttering community. Children will meet others who stutter, have fun talking and learn about stuttering and ways to increase their confidence communicating. Parents will learn the best ways to support their children and meet other parents who share the same experiences and concerns.
