The Blakemore Trio will celebrate the release of its debut CD recording, The Blakemore Trio Plays Beethoven and Ravel, at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, in Ingram Hall at the Blair School of Music. The CD is out this month on Blue Griffin Records.

The event is free and open to the public, and an artists’ reception will follow the performance. CDs will be available for purchase and signing.

The Blakemore Trio—pianist Amy Dorfman, violinist Carolyn Huebl and cellist Felix Wang—will perform a diverse concert program, including two works that draw inspiration from global folklore: Bright Sheng’s “Four Movements for Piano Trio” and Judith Weir’s “Piano Trio Two.” Felix Mendelssohn’s Trio in C Minor, a chamber music classic, closes the program.

The CD, recorded in Ingram Hall, consists of two masterworks for piano trio: Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Trio in D Major, Op. 70, No. 1, “Ghost,” and Maurice Ravel’s Piano Trio in A Minor.

Dorfman, Huebl and Wang, all acclaimed performers in their own right, have performed as The Blakemore Trio since 2002. Since then, the ensemble has developed a national reputation, performing on chamber series throughout the country and making its New York debut at Merkin Hall in 2010. Critics have hailed the trio’s “all-but-perfect sense of ensemble, expressive phrasing, and great intonation” and described their performances as having “riveting intensity.”
