Instead of watching the Times Square ball drop on TV, members of the Nashville community can ring in the new year underneath the stars in the heart of nature.
Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory and Radnor Lake State Natural Area will host a telescope viewing and moonlight hike on New Year’s Eve, Monday, Dec. 31.
Dyer Observatory, located at 1000 Oman Drive in Brentwood, will hold a one-hour viewing through its Seyfert telescope beginning at 10 p.m. The hike, led by Radnor Lake State Natural Area park manager Steve Ward, will begin at 11 p.m. and last about two hours. Hikers will travel from Dyer Observatory to a ridge top recently acquired by the park, returning to the observatory around 1 a.m. on Jan. 1. All activities are weather permitting.
