The Vanderbilt Department of Art will present a video screening of Dread Spawn (Head Wrong), a remake and reinterpretation of the 1984 film Red Dawn, at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the E. Bronson Ingram Studio Arts Center, Room 220.
The screening is free and open to the public. A question-and-answer session with the film’s creator, artist Annamarie Ho, will follow.
The film’s inspiration, Red Dawn, was released at the height of the Cold War and follows a group of high school students as they battle the Soviet Army, which occupies their Colorado town. Ho has remixed Red Dawn to create Dread Spawn (Head Wrong), altering the storyline to follow a group of diverse high school students in New York’s Chinatown as they battle an invasion by China’s People’s Liberation Army.
The Vanderbilt screening of Dread Spawn coincides with MGM’s forthcoming release of a remake of Red Dawn, with North Korea replacing the U.S.S.R. as the enemy.
