This month dozens of colleges across the country will participate in the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2012 Game Day Challenge. This is Vanderbilt’s third year in a row taking the challenge. Last year, participating schools diverted nearly half a million pounds of waste from local landfills, and Vanderbilt ranked in the Top 10 in NCAA division one schools in the “Waste Minimization” category.
For the 2012 EPA Recycling Game Day Challenge, Vanderbilt’s Sustainability and Environmental Management Office (SEMO) will recruit extra volunteers to help out the game-day recycling efforts at the Vanderbilt vs. Auburn game on Oct. 20.
Prizes will be given to fans who get caught “green-handed,” i.e., reducing waste at the game, such as:
The resulting pounds of total waste and recycling generated on Oct. 20 will be submitted to the Game Day Challenge. The winning schools will be announced in December.
Help Vanderbilt score both on and off the field by reducing, reusing and recycling!
