Voter ID laws to be examined at Vanderbilt Constitution Day Program

A forum to examine voter identification laws will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, as Vanderbilt University marks Constitution Day.

Carrie A. Russell, senior lecturer in political science, will speak 3 p.m. in the Moore Room at Vanderbilt Law School. The event, “We the People: American Citizenship and Voter Identification Laws,” is free and open to the public.

The program will be videotaped for podcasting, and posted on the Vanderbilt News and Communications website.

Russell’s presentation will tie the obligations of citizenship with the effects of voter identification laws.

This year’s program marks Vanderbilt’s eighth Constitution Day event.  The Constitution was signed on Sept. 17, 1787.
