To celebrate National Poetry Month (April) and the exhibition To See as Artists See: American Art from the Phillips Collection, nationally and locally known poets will read poems by American poets from the late 19th century through the 20th century at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts.
The poets will select poems that reflect the exhibition themes and illuminate one or two art works in the exhibition. Several Vanderbilt professors will participate:
Poetry Aloud: Mark Jarman, the Centennial Professor, director of creative writing and author of Bone Fires: New and Selected Poems.
Poetry Aloud: Kate Daniels, professor of English and creative writing and author of four collections of poetry, including A Walk in Victoria’s Secret.
Poetry Aloud: Rick Hilles, assistant professor of creative writing and author of the poetry collection Brother Salvage.
Meet at exhibition entrance. Free with purchase of gallery admission.
