Poets mark National Poetry Month with Sunday readings at Frist Center

To celebrate National Poetry Month (April) and the exhibition To See as Artists See: American Art from the Phillips Collection, nationally and locally known poets will read poems by American poets from the late 19th century through the 20th century at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts.

The poets will select poems that reflect the exhibition themes and illuminate one or two art works in the exhibition. Several Vanderbilt professors will participate:

Sunday, April 22, 3 p.m.

Jarman

Poetry Aloud: Mark Jarman, the Centennial Professor, director of creative writing and author of Bone Fires: New and Selected Poems.

Daniels

Sunday, April 29, 3 p.m.

Poetry Aloud: Kate Daniels, professor of English and creative writing and author of four collections of poetry, including A Walk in Victoria’s Secret.

Sunday, May 6, 3 p.m.

Hilles

Poetry Aloud: Rick Hilles, assistant professor of creative writing and author of the poetry collection Brother Salvage.
