HHMI announces 2013 investigator competition

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is accepting applications for investigator positions from outstanding scientists who have demonstrated originality and substantial accomplishments in biomedical research and who show exceptional promise for future achievement and leadership in research. The institute expects to appoint 20-30 new investigators.

The competition is open to scientists who study significant biological problems in all of the biomedical disciplines as well as in adjacent fields such as biophysics, chemical biology, biomedical engineering and computational biology. Plant scientists, experimental evolutionary biologists and patient-oriented researchers are welcome to apply.

Eligibility:

  • Ph.D. and/or M.D. or equivalent degree
  • Tenured or tenure-track position as an assistant professor or higher academic rank (or the equivalent) at an eligible U.S. institution
  • More than five but no more than 15 years of experience since appointment as an assistant professor or equivalent position
  • Principal investigator on one or more active, national peer-reviewed research grants with a duration of at least three years
