The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Round Table (GLBTRT) of the American Library Association has unveiled a new name for the newest Stonewall Book Award: the Stonewall Book Awards-Mike Morgan and Larry Romans Children’s & Young Adult Literature Award. The name recognizes longtime GLBTRT member Larry Romans and his partner of more than 40 years, Mike Morgan, for their significant gift to the GLBTRT endowment.

Romans is head of government information and media services at Vanderbilt Library, and Morgan recently retired as a research nurse with the Vanderbilt/Meharry AIDS Clinical Trials Center.

The award is given annually to English-language works of exceptional merit written for children or teens and relating to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender experience. The 2012 honor has been awarded to the young adult novel Putting Makeup on the Fat Boy by Bil Wright.

The Stonewall Awards, which include honors for adult fiction and adult non-fiction, are the oldest and most enduring national awards for GLBT literature. Learn more about the Stonewall Awards on the American Library Association website.
