SECURITY NOTICE: Robberies off campus

On Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at 11:29 p.m., Metro Nashville Police Department received a report of a robbery on Fairfax Avenue near 24th Avenue South.

A neighborhood resident while walking near 24th Avenue South and Fairfax noticed a vehicle driving slowly behind her. Three individuals got out of the vehicle. One of them physically assaulted her and took her belongings. The individuals then got back in their vehicle and left the area.

Description: The suspects were described as one black male and two other males, ethnicity unknown. They were passengers in a silver or light colored sedan.

On Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at 11:44 p.m., Metro Nashville Police Department received a report of a robbery in Centennial Park near McDonalds. A neighborhood resident was walking through the park when three individuals came up behind her and demanded her purse and other belongings. The individuals left on foot towards the center of the park.

Description: The suspects were described as two black males, 5’7″ 180 pounds, dark clothing, no facial hair, and one black female. The black males were armed with chains and a broom stick.

Risk Reduction Tips

  • Scan the area before you exit or approach your vehicle/building and while you proceed between sites.
  • Have your key ready in hand to quickly access the door of your vehicle/building.
  • Avoid Isolated or dark areas.
  • Travel with confidence and purpose.
  • If strangers approach, maintain a distance and be observant; if they are in a vehicle, get the license plate number.
  • Stay alert and trust your instincts. If you feel uneasy, leave. Go to a safe location and notify VUPD.
  • Lock doors and windows of your room/building. Don’t prop open doors, thwart security measures, or let strangers in.
  • Avoid going to ATMs alone, after dark, or if suspicious persons are nearby.
  • Know the location of emergency phones
  • Stay alert, and plan ahead for “What if?” situations.
