When Gallim Dance burst onto the New York dance scene, the company immediately caught the attention of the city’s dance community.
“The name of the young troupe means ‘waves’ in Hebrew, and waves are what she’s making …in the dance scene,” wrote Metro, New York.
The “she” is artistic director and choreographer Andrea Miller, a former dancer with the Israel-based Batsheva modern dance company. It has been said Miller’s movement exists at extreme physicality – shifting between explosive power and contained tension, creating an experience where the dancers exist at the edge of their limits.
Gallim Dance will bring that physicality to the Vanderbilt stage when the company performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, in Langford Auditorium as part of the Great Performances series.
Gallim will offer a master dance class from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in Memorial Gym free to Vanderbilt Dance Program students and $10 for the general public. Call (615) 322-2471 to reserve a spot.
Tickets for the Oct. 28 performance are on sale now at the Sarratt box office, all Ticketmaster locations, Ticketmaster telecharge at (615) 255-9600 or online. Single ticket prices are $40, $35 or $30 for the public, $18 for Vanderbilt faculty and staff, $10 for all area students and children with a valid ID, and $5 for Vanderbilt students.
