Irish storyteller Clare Murphy to perform Oct. 4

Clare Murphy, an Irish storyteller, will perform at Vanderbilt Oct. 4 in an event sponsored by the Department of English.

The performance, scheduled for 7 p.m. in 126 Wilson Hall, is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.

Murphy has taken her expressive voice and dynamic physical style to venues across her native Ireland, Europe and the world, including The Globe Theatre London, The Barbican Theatre London, The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival, the Cape Clear International Storytelling Festival, Norway’s Fortellerfestivalen, the Vienna Lit Festival and Singapore’s Esplanade Theatre.

She will appear at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tenn., Oct. 7-9 and is a recommended storyteller on the internationally renowned Crick Crack Club’s website.

Murphy travels Ireland regularly working in schools, libraries, art centers and theaters. She also works in conjunction with the UK Literacy Trust, Poetry Ireland, Children’s Books Ireland and the National Museum of Ireland on various storytelling projects.
