Upgrade makes VUprint more convenient for users

Effective Aug. 19, VUprint, the campus pay-for-print service, has been replaced with a new system that will include expanded options for users. The new system incorporates “Secure Print,” which allows users to print from their computers to one of many printers located across campus.

“Students can now send a print job from their room, or wherever there is a Vanderbilt network connection available, to a universal queue and then choose any one of a number of printers from which to print,” Business Services Systems Director Rick Wood said. “It’s much more flexible and convenient than the previous version of VUprint.”

Unlike the old system, the new VUprint supports Apple computers without using a print release station. It also includes a roadmap for mobile device printing that is expected to be available by next spring.

The price for a black-and-white print has increased from 4 to 5 cents per page, which is still almost 50 percent less than major-name copy stores. Color prints remain 25 cents each.

Payment for prints can be made easily using funds stored on students’ Commodore Cards. In addition, VUprint is also available for use by faculty and staff.
