June grants announced by Division of Sponsored Research

The Division of Sponsored Research received notification in June that the following grants in excess of $25,000 had been awarded:

Mark D. Abkowitz, Civil and Environmental Engineering, has received an award in the amount of $50,000 by the Department of Transportation for “Spatial Analysis of Safety and Security Vulnerability During Transport of Hazardous Materials.” James P. Dobbins is co-principal investigator.

Michael L. Alles, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, has received an award in the amount of $50,000 by the Department of Defense for “Study of Total Ionizing Dose Radiation Effects in 45 and 32 nm SOI CMOS Technology.”

Brian O. Bachmann, Chemistry, has received an award in the amount of $369,324 by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for “New Methodologies for Accelerating Natural Product Discovery.” John A. McLean is co-principal investigator.

Prodyot K. Basu, Civil and Environmental Engineering, has received an award in the amount of $99,103 by the Department of Defense for “Modeling and Simulation of New Generation Armor Panels Under Blast Loading.”

Seth R. Bordenstein, Biological Sciences, has received an award in the amount of $240,713 by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for “Molecular Evolution and Life Cycle of Wolbachia Bacteriophage.”

Erik W. Carter, Special Education, has received an award in the amount of $2,193,938 by the Department of Education for “Peer Support and Peer Network Interventions to Improve Peer Relationships and School Engagement.”

Xiu C. Cravens, Leadership, Policy and Organizations, has received an award in the amount of $223,706 by the Institute for International Education, Incorporated for “Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program 2011-12.”

Benoit Dawant, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, has received an award in the amount of $578,913 by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering for “Computer-assisted Functional Neurosurgery.” Adam Anderson, Pierre-Francois D’Haese, Prashanth Dumpuri, John M. Fitzpatrick, Bennett A. Landman and Michael I. Miga are co-principal investigators.

Lynn S. Fuchs, Special Education, has received an award in the amount of $369,047 by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development for “Preventing and Understanding Math Disability.” Donald L. Compton and Douglas H. Fuchs are co-principal investigators.

Isabel Gauthier, Psychology, has received an award in the amount of $374,249 by the National Eye Institute for “The Role of Expertise in Object Perception.”

Teresa A. Goddu, English, has received an award in the amount of $145,700 by the Mellon Foundation for “The Age of Emancipation: Black Freedom in the Atlantic World.” Richard J.M. Blackett and Jane L. Landers are co-principal investigators.

Stephen E. Graham, Special Education, has received an award in the amount of $199,610 by the Department of Education for “Leadership Preparation Program in LD: Scientifically-based Academic Practices, Cultural Diversity and the General Education Curriculum.” Donald L. Guilherme A.R. Mitchell A. Gary A. Sulikowski, Chemistry, has received an award in the amount of $265,128 by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for “Chemistry-Biology Interface Training Grant.” Brian O. Bachmann, Darryl J. Bornhop and David E. Cliffel are co-principal investigators. Sulikowski also received an award in the amount of $81,650 by the National Science Foundation for “Research Experience for Undergraduates in Chemical Biology.” Michelle M.
