Watch video of Edward DeMarco, Acting Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, speaking on “Maintaining Housing Finance in a World of Uncertainty.”

The passage of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act is considered the most sweeping change to financial regulation since the Great Depression. It was created and signed into law in 2010 as a result of the recent recession, with the goal of bringing more accountability to Wall Street and big banks.

On May 5-6, experts and leaders from the financial and banking industries came to Vanderbilt University to discuss the challenges and regulatory changes surrounding implementing this massive financial regulation.

The conference was led by the Financial Markets Research Center at the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management in Owen’s Averbuch Auditorium. The keynote speaker was Edward DeMarco, Acting Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency. His talk was titled, “Maintaining Housing Finance in a World of Uncertainty.”

elimanating fannie and freddie is NOT the solution

as far as the FHLB’s go, raising the cost of term funding to regional banks simply improves the market position of larger banks. You don’t shrink systemic risk by reducing the Federal Home Loan Banks. You shrink systemic risk by diversifying assets across a broad range of business models in different financial intermediaries

deMarco to banking is like an engineering academic to an automobile. they can tell you how an internal combustion engine works, but none of them can actually fix a car when they break down in one. Many in the industry, especialy in the role of the Federal Home Loan Banks are so frustrated with Ed deMarco -he not only lacks the real experience needed to weather this storm, he ignorantly and knowingly ignores better judgement and sound advice from seasoned and professional veterans in the industry
