Mayor lauds Center for Science Outreach

Mayor Karl Dean (Vanderbilt)

Mayor Karl Dean of Nashville presented Vanderbilt’s Center for Science Outreach with a prestigious award.

The center, which is dedicated to enhancing science literacy through partnerships between Vanderbilt scientists, K-12 educators and students and the local and global science community, was presented with the Mayor’s Award for Outstanding System-wide Partnership at a luncheon May 4.

“Perhaps most well-known is the center’s School of Science and Math … which was established in 2007 in partnership with Metro Nashville Public Schools,” Dean said. “In just a few weeks, the first class of students will graduate from this unique program.”

For two decades, the Center for Science Outreach has brought innovative programs supporting science and math education to public schools in Nashville, changing the lives of countless students, teachers and Vanderbilt scientists. For more information, see this story from the Vanderbilt View.
