Several trees were downed and power knocked out to some areas of the Vanderbilt campus as a result of high winds that accompanied a storm that swept through campus shortly after 2 p.m. April 4. Only one, apparently minor, injury was reported.
Power remained out in the Greek Row area, but was restored in Towers along West End Avenue shortly after 4 p.m.
Vanderbilt officials were surveying damage that was concentrated principally on the Greek Row area on Kensington Place between 24th and 25th avenues. Six trees, three Greek houses and approximately 15 cars were damaged as a result of the winds. Limbs were reported down in other areas of campus.
Part of Kensington Place was being shut down while the downed trees were removed.
The only known injury was to a student who fell on the wet aggregate near Featheringill Hall as she sought shelter. She came to the Student Health Center with a leg injury and was escorted by health center personnel to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Emergency Department, where she was being treated.
Nashville Electric Service reported that approximately 71,000 customers across the metropolitan area were without electricity as a result of the storm.
