The Vanderbilt Center for Latin American Studies, ConexiónAméricas and the Woodrow Wilson Center Mexico Institute presented this Sept. 7, 2010, roundtable discussion of the effects of recent economic downturn on Mexican immigration to the U.S.
The panel brought together leading experts to analyze the interrelation of immigration, economic crisis, and increased border security—and what this means for Mexico as well as the United States. The discussion featured Jorge Durand, a leading expert on Mexican immigration issues, a CLAS Visiting Resource Professor, and the author of “Crossing The Border: Research From The Mexican Migration Project.” Other panelists included David R. Ayón (Woodrow Wilson Center Mexico Institute); Katharine Donato (Department of Sociology, Vanderbilt); Renata Soto (ConexiónAméricas); Moderator: Gary Gerstle (Department of History, Vanderbilt).
