Media Advisory: Logistical information regarding covering Gen. David H. Petraeus’ visit to Vanderbilt University Monday, March 1

The current chief of the United States Central Command and the former top U.S. commander in Iraq, Army Gen. David Petraeus, will speak about his actions as commander of the surge in Iraq, the role of U.S. forces overseas and the latest developments in the surge. The event will be held Monday, March 1, at 5 p.m. at the Student Life Center.

A media availability will be held at 2 p.m. for credentialed media. Media must have credentials for both events.

All tickets have been claimed for the free, public event. The speech will be streamed live at www.vanderbilt.edu/news.

Credentials – Media Availability: Those media that have requested credentials and plan to cover the 2 p.m. media availability with Petraeus will need to arrive at the Student Life Center no later than 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 1, for a security sweep of media equipment. Media will also pick up their credentials at this time. The media entrance will be on the end of the Student Life Center building near 25th Avenue South and will be marked as the media entrance. Valid media identification/press passes must be presented.

Credentials – Public Speech
A second security sweep is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. for those media covering Petraeus’ public talk at 5 p.m. in the Student Life Center Ballroom. All television, radio and print photography equipment must be in place at the riser location by 3 p.m. If you are only covering the speech, you must get your media credentials at the media entrance at the Student Life Center building near 25th Avenue South.

Broadcast/Photography Media: Risers will be provided for cameras during the 5 p.m. public lecture. There will be an audio-only mult box at the riser location.

Parking Television: There is limited parking for television crews with equipment in Lot 64 off 25th Avenue South. Lot 64 is behind Memorial Gym and across the street from the Student Life Center. Live Trucks: If you plan to have a live truck at the location, arrangements must be made ahead of time by calling Princine Lewis at (Cell) 615-673-5286 or the News Service 615-322-2706.

Print/Radio Media: There will be reserved seating in the ballroom for media.

Parking Print/Radio Media: Limited public parking is available in the 25th Avenue Garage located at 25th Avenue South and Highland Avenue. Enter the garage off Highland Avenue. Pay parking is also available in the 2525 Garage (near the Marriott Hotel and shops and restaurants) off of West End Avenue.
