MEDIA ADVISORY: Sustainability and Environmental Management Office to kick off basketball game recycling program at Jan. 2 game against Southern Miss.

The Sustainability and Environmental Management Office (SEMO) along with Vanderbilt Athletics will offer recycling at all Vanderbilt men’s and women’s home basketball games, beginning Saturday, Jan. 2, with the game against Southern Mississippi.

“Major events on campus present the opportunity to recycle a large amount of material that would otherwise take up space at local landfills,” said Jennifer Hackett, recycling coordinator. “We’re excited to be able to coordinate with the Student Department of Athletics as well as student volunteers to help capture this material before it enters the waste stream.”

Fans are asked to recycle plastic bottles and commemorative cups at green recycling bins next to the trash cans on the concourse.

Clean cardboard from vendors will also be collected and recycled.

Look for important recycling information and messages on the Jumbo-Tron in Memorial Gym during the games as well.
