Vanderbilt University Peabody College’s Stephen N. Elliott will receive the Senior Scientist Award from Division 16 of the American Psychological Association at the organization’s convention Aug. 6-9 in Toronto.
The Senior Scientist Award is given in recognition of an accomplished researcher’s outstanding and sustained program of research throughout his or her career that has had an impact on school psychology.
“Steve Elliott is one of the leading lights in his discipline,” Camilla P. Benbow, Patricia and Rodes Hart Dean of Education and Human Development, said. “At a time when the results of assessments have consequences not only for individuals but for schools and policymakers, his expertise is invaluable.”
Elliott is professor of special education, Dunn Family Professor of Educational and Psychological Assessment, director of the Learning Sciences Institute and director of the Interdisciplinary Program in Educational Psychology. His research focuses on the assessment of children’s social skills and academic competence, development and validation of testing accommodations, alternate assessments for evaluating the academic performance of students with disabilities and the design and evaluation of tests and assessments of human performance.
Elliott currently co-directs three research grants concerning design and validation of alternate assessments for students with disabilities and a fourth project to validate the Vanderbilt Assessment of Leadership in Education (VAL-ED).
