Vanderbilt’s chief information security officer Security Professional of the Year

The Information Systems Security Association has honored Mark Johnson, chief information security officer for Vanderbilt University, with its Security Professional of the Year award for 2008.

Johnson will accept his award at an April 22 ceremony.

ISSA is the largest international, not-for-profit association specifically for security professionals. Its members include practitioners at all levels of the security field in a broad range of industries, such as communications, education, healthcare, manufacturing, financial and government. The organization’s primary goal is to promote management practices that will ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information resources.

Johnson joined Vanderbilt in August 2004 after serving as the chief security officer for London Bridge Group, a London-based global provider of technology solutions for the financial services industry that was purchased by Fair Isaac Corporation in 2004. He has more than 16 years of experience in the information security field and has also worked as a consultant, specializing in security solutions for Fortune 100 companies, and as an operations lead for contractors providing direct support to various U.S. intelligence agencies.

He holds a master’s degree in computer science from James Madison University and is the 2007 winner of the Executive Alliance National Information Security Executive of the Year award in the academic category.
