Vanderbilt gallery to exhibit work by artists John Brown and Michael Krueger

Artists John Brown and Michael Krueger, who use junk mail and old high school notebooks in their work, respectively, will share an exhibition at Vanderbilt University from Aug. 27 to Oct. 3.

NUTS & GUM: Works by John Brown and Michael Krueger
opens with a reception attended by the artists from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27. The exhibit will run through Oct. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

The exhibition and opening reception at Space 204 in the Bronson Ingram Studio Arts Center at 1204 25th Ave. South are free. The public is invited to both.

Brown, a native of Scotland, methodically mixes a wide range of images into abstract structures. His images come from a variety of sources, including each day’s junk mail.

Krueger grew up in Sioux Falls, S.D., and uses his own notebooks from high school, complete with the logos of heavy metal bands, as source material.

"The heavy metal movement that grew out of post-Vietnam War era obsession with decadence, death and nihilism continues to fascinate me," Krueger said.
